Service / OpenCart

Senior engineers for OpenCart development, upgrades and rescue.

Custom modules and themes. OCmod conflict cleanup, 3.x → 4.x upgrades, payment and carrier integrations. We read the code that actually runs on your server before we touch any of it. And if OpenCart is the wrong platform for your store, we’ll say so instead of billing you to keep it breathing.

Symptoms

The calls we usually get.

What we do

OpenCart development starts by finding out which code actually runs.

Most “broken” OpenCart stores aren’t broken. They’re buried. Years of OCmod and vQmod patches rewrite the same controllers at runtime, so the files sitting on disk stop telling the truth about what your store does. We work out the real execution path first, fold the patches into event-based modules anyone can read, and only then build anything new on top.

Untangle what’s already there

  • Every OCmod & vQmod patch found, and what each one touches
  • Those patches folded into modules you can read
  • Version control, on a store that had none
  • A staging site, so changes stop landing on customers

Build & upgrade

  • Custom modules & themes built on the event system
  • 3.x → 4.x upgrades, rehearsed on staging before you go live
  • Payment, carrier & ERP integrations that survive updates
  • Query & cache work for stores with big catalogs

A straight answer about leaving

  • Stay or move, costed both ways with real numbers
  • Migration to WooCommerce with products, orders and customers intact
  • URLs & rankings held through the cutover
  • And we tell you when staying put is the cheaper call

From the field

CASE FILE · OPENCART RESCUE INTAKE STATUS: RESOLVED
SYMPTOM

Roughly 8% of checkouts came through with no shipping cost on them. The store had been paying that freight itself for months before anyone spotted the pattern.

ROOT CAUSE

Two OCmod extensions were patching the same checkout controller. Load order decided which one won. The losing path never wrote the shipping total at all.

OUTCOME

We merged both patches into one event-based module you can read top to bottom, reconciled the order totals against the carrier invoices, and the modification cache now rebuilds only from code in version control.

Questions

What store owners ask us about OpenCart development.

What does OpenCart development cost?

Project work gets a fixed quote after a free triage — we don’t put a number on anything before we’ve read the code. Ongoing care starts at $595/month (Monitor), dedicated engineering capacity at $1,950/month, and one-off emergencies from $500 per incident. See plans.

Is OpenCart still a viable platform?

Yes, if it’s run with some discipline. A store in version control, with a staging site and event-based modules instead of a stack of OCmod patches, runs fine for years. When the math says moving costs less than fixing, we tell you before you spend the money, not after.

How do 3.x → 4.x upgrades actually work?

Not by pressing the upgrade button and hoping. 4.x changed the extension architecture, so OCmod stacks and older themes don’t survive the jump. We go through every modification first, rebuild the ones worth keeping, rehearse the whole upgrade on staging against a copy of your data, and cut over only once checkout passes end to end.

Can you build custom payment and shipping integrations?

Yes. Local carriers, payment providers, ERPs, product feeds. They’re built as proper extensions against OpenCart’s event system, never as edits to core files, so the next upgrade doesn’t wipe them out.

When does migrating to WooCommerce make sense?

When rebuilding your patch stack costs more than moving does. You get both options in writing, with numbers attached. Move, and your products, orders, customers and URLs come with you. Stay, and you’ll know exactly why that was the better call.
